The Porsche 924 was entered for the 1980 Le Mans 24 Hour Endurance Race. This meant Porsche needed to Homologate the car entered to meet Group 4 regulations, hence the 924 Carrera GT was born. The Porsche factory only made (406) 924 Carrera GT's and only 75 of the 406 vehicles produced were Right Hand Drive which makes this fully restored GT something of a rare beast given the production numbers.
This particular example was first registered by Malten Car Concessionaires of Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire during February 1981. The first owner was a Mr Kork Ballington a four times Grand Prix motorcycle road racing world champion.
2016 marked the 40th anniversary of the first transaxle, front – engine models so to celebrate this mile stone Porsche Cars GB decided to host an official Porsche restoration competition, with that in mind the hunt was on for 924’s, 944’s, 968’s and 928’s with the 924 Carrera GT being the rarest of them all.
This 924 Carrera GT was the vehicle sourced and chosen by Porsche Centre Silverstone. Sourcing a C16 924 Carrera GT isn’t a simple task given the low RHD build numbers however they somehow managed to find this example, an original panel GT with a wonderful interior and superb history file to include the original service book and just about every Mot and service invoice from new…….A perfect start!
Porsche Silverstone’s aim was to sympathetically restore this Carrera GT's to its former glory. This would mean all the known mechanical weak points were attended to or replaced along with a window out respray by Elite Motors Body Shop who are Porsche Recommended Independent Repairer.
Whilst writing this advert and thumbing through the vast number of invoices it becomes very clear that this vehicle has not wanted for anything over its life. In fact this 924 GT could be considered one of the lucky ones that has constantly received care and attention pretty much since day one. It also becomes clear just how much money has been lavished on it over the years and how special and highly collectable this Porsche really is.
I wonder how many of the 75 RHD cars have survived ? and once that number has been whittled down how many of them are actually cars you would want to own ?
The team at JZM have a feeling you could count the contenders on one hand.
Best make that call today………………..
