1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR IROC-inspired for sale

JZM Porsche is delighted to offer this simply stunning 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera IROC RSR tribute for sale. Prepared by leading lights of the air-cooled Porsche community, this 911 was built for incredible speed in ultimate style, regardless of cost. With more than 400hp powering in all-up weight of circa 1050 kilos, this 911 is guaranteed to entertain!

The bodyshell and chassis build including six-speed conversion was carried out by the respected Zuffenhaus organisation in Charlotte, North Carolina. Starting with a clean LHD 1974 911 shell, the team first carried out the many chassis modifications. With the 911 bolted to a chassis jig, the front suspension towers were cut out and Smart Racing camber boxes welded in. The rear towers were braced and reinforced to take coilovers. Front and rear floorpans were modified to carry aftermarket 935 front and rear suspension.

While this was going on, a new Porsche 993RS G50/31 transmission was sourced from Porsche Germany, complete with steel synchros, Porsche Motorsport 40/65 differential and RS short shift kit. The 1974 rear section was replaced with the rear section of a 964 to take the upgraded transmission: this was a huge project, complete with change to relocated 964 oil tank system to accommodate a 993 exhaust with side mufflers.

Other shell upgrades include Mocal oil cooling with a 72-row oil cooler set in a custom intake to the nose of the car, custom mounted 930 rear trailing arms to handle the huge increase in grip and a four-point strut brace which stiffens the front suspension, along with a 100-litre ATL fuel cell and full fire extinguisher system.

Fitted with a custom four-point interior roll cage, the widened and modified bodyshell was stripped back to a bare shell before the unique step was taken to powder-coat the interior engine bay and underbonnet areas for maximum durability and protection. The exterior was then painted in a matching colour, a few shades darker than classic Porsche Mexico Blue.

An adjustable Smart Racing dual master cylinder controls the big 993 C4S front calipers, with 917 derived Porsche 930 calipers at the rear (930 calipers are available for the front). The rear also features RSR reproduction handbrake calipers. Wheels are 17” Zuffenhaus Fuchs, as used on Singer Design Porsche 911s. Fox dampers with remote reservoirs and Smart Racing adjustable anti-roll bars on WEVO custom mounts complete the suspension.

Inside the car, a long list of modifications includes custom colour-coded Recaro Pole Position seats with dash, door panels and seat inserts trimmed in a mix of leather and Alcantara. Lowered seat rails, suede Momo steering wheel with GT3 RS quick release and full harnesses keep the occupants secure, with custom 3-point seat belts for the rear seats when the cage is removed. Glass is a later bonded 993 windscreen, with manual door regulators and lightweight GT3 RS side and rear glass. A full compliment of high-end on-track datalogging and track video equipment including g-monitors is fitted to the car, including an iPod hookup and even rear speakers to entertain all the way to Spa-Francorchamps or the Nurburgring.

As with the rest of this incredible 911, the 3.8-litre flat six engine was specified with no regard to cost. Based around 964 engine cases and built by NineMeister (9M) in Warrington, the 9M dyno shows peak power of 405 bhp at 7800 rpm with a stunning 452Nm of torque at 5140 rpm.

Headline items include:
MoTec M600 engine management system
9M Racing 102mm Clubsport pistons and cylinders
9M Racing camshafts
9M Racing billet heads
9M Racing valve springs and retainers
9M Racing billet intake manifolds with long trumpets
Jenvey throttle bodies with 9M airboxes and throttle linkages
9M 964/993 headers with custom exhaust system meeting 105db noise restrictions

Built to be enjoyed on track, the handmade exhaust complies with circuit noise limits of 105db. The 1.75” exhaust headers are perfectly matched to the famous 9M heads. The smooth torque curve on 9M racing cams is a joy to behold, with huge power on tap from any throttle position. Lap times show this car is easily capable of outrunning all the current performance leaders, with lap times equivalent to an expertly-driven Porsche 997 GT2 around Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.

Known and loved by air-cooled Porsche enthusiasts all over the world, this exceptional 911 could not be reproduced for less than £175,000 in today’s market. Offered for sale in beautiful condition, early viewing is advised!
